In order to make use of the new type of calculation surface for results according to the guideline for workplaces A3.4 the following three steps are necessary

 1. Positioning  the area for  the  task area
 2. Selecting between a space-filling surrounding area for all task areas  or a surrounding area as a wall zone  for individual task areas  or groups of task areas
 3. Documenting the results

Step 1
Positioning a task area

To design an area for a task, first of all switch into "calculation object mode". On the left hand side you will find the tool 'task area'. From version Evo 5.2 onwards the EN 12464-1 areas for visual tasks and the ASR calculation surfaces are combined in this tool. In the tool itself you will find a selection catalogue. You can open this via the icon 'Select' and then select from the surfaces indicated.  Here you will find the section 'task area.


After you have selected the task area in the catalogue, this is selected as an active calculation object. Now you can generate the calculation surface for the task area in three ways.

Drawing a rectangular calculation object

Select the action and, in the CAD view, drag a rectangle to the desired position. The task area is generated with a surrounding area which fill the whole room/space. As a standard the surrounding area does not go right up to the walls. There is a distance to the walls of 0.5m. This value can be adjusted under 'Further properties'.

Drawing a polygonal calculation object

Select the action and place several support points in the CAD view. When the polygon has been closed, the task area is generated in the desired shape.


Positioning the calculation object

After you have selected this action and then clicked in the CAD view, a standard 1 x 1 m surface is generated which can then be adjusted via 'Scale' or 'Edit polygon'.


Via the functions "Scale" or "Edit polygon" you can always change the shape of task areas according to ASR at a later time.

Step 2
Selecting between a space-filling surrounding area for all task areas or a surrounding area as a wall zone for individual task areas or groups of task areas

Normally Evo generates a common surrounding area for work stations. As a standard this is 'space-filling' minus the distance to the walls. The standard value for the distance from the walls is 0.5m. If further task areas are positioned in the room, these share the surrounding area which fills the room/space. This is the Evo standard. 


It is, however, also possible to change from a room-filling surrounding area to a surrounding area as a wall zone. To do this you simply select one of the working surfaces and remove the tick next to surrounding area. The result is displayed immediately in CAD. Each working surface now has its own surrounding area.


 As a rule Evo always generates a new surrounding area for a working surface when this does not overlap with another surrounding area. If a working surface overlaps with the surrounding area of another working surface, then this working surface does not have its own surrounding area. 



Evo also allows the combination of surrounding areas. For this to be so, the two surrounding areas must overlap. If these overlap, then you must first select both surrounding areas and then fuse these into an integral area via the function 'Combine surrounding areas'. 




Step 3
Documenting the results

You will find the results relating to task areas in the 'Room summary' in the output below the user level in the results for the EN 12464-1 areas for visual tasks.
